  • Best local fine dining restaurant – With Nusa Dua’s relaxed atmosphere and emphasis on outdoor living, the local restaurants are very much geared up to casual dining, but if you have something special in mind just speak to Chef Yan.
  • Best casual restaurant – Local cafés by Jimbaran Beach serve seafood locally caught that morning http://wikitravel.org/en/Jimbaran
  • Best restaurant for lunch – Bumbu Bali in Tanjung Benoa where you dine in a re-creation of a Balinese village. On Wednesdays and Fridays you can expect to see local dancers, gamelan players, or the odd barong dancer performing between tables. http://www.balifoods.com/
  • Best patisserie – As ever, Chef Yan takes some beating, but if you want to try a local patisserie, try Café Moka in Bukit which has a constant stream of freshly baked breads and pastries throughout the day http://www.cafemokabali.com/
  • Best place for a sundowner – Choose from the many bars at Geger Beach to enjoy a cocktail and the beautiful sunset http://wikitravel.org/en/Nusa_Dua
  • Best local bar – The area round The Shanti Residence is quite quiet, but if you want a more lively evening, then head to Seminyak with Ku De Ta's picturesque setting provides sweeping ocean views. It is just under 25 kilometres away, but a good night will be had by all http://www.kudeta.net/
  • Best nightclub – The Hu’u Bar in Seminyak http://huubali.com/ has been open for 10 years and is still as trendy as ever a place to go and party
  • Best place for a picnic – Geger Beach is a public beach and a lovely place to enjoy a picnic http://wikitravel.org/en/Nusa_Dua
  • Notable local cultural events , festivals or celebrations – Annual Ogoh Ogoh parade, Balinese religious ceremony http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogoh-ogoh
  • Must see – Kecak dance at Uluwatu Temple http://www.uluwatukecakdance.com/
  • Must do – Holistic Spa treatment at Shanti, watersports in Tanjung Benoa, and visit the local Jimbaran Fish Market with resident Chef Yan http://tanjungbenoa.com/
  • Must try – Chef Yan’s Rijstaffel, a Dutch word which translates as ‘rice table’ – this might not sound that exciting, but that could not be further from the experience you will have. This is an Indonesian speciality which consists of many side dishes in small portions, accompanied by rice prepared in several different ways. It is quite simply delicious.
  • Hidden secret – Bali Aga (original Balinese community) in Eastern Bali
  • Best time to visit for the weather – The dry season is May to October and so June, July, August are the best times to visit if you want less humidity and have less chance of rain
  • Best time to visit to avoid the crowds – Nyepi, a public holiday in Indonesia, is a day of silence, fasting and meditation for the Balinese. So it is very quiet and many local people are at home.
