Croatia, Losinj Island Villa Hortensia

Magnificent seaside villa on the island of Lošinj

Villa Hortensia is a luxury ten room property in Austro-Hungarian architectural-style, dating back to 1912, although the building was totally refurbished in 2015. One of the features of the re-born villa is its spacious and airy feel with specialist architectural lighting created by leading Croatian designer Dean Skira. The property’s breath-taking position provides beautiful views of the surrounding pines, agava, palm trees and the crystal clear waters of Čikat Bay. The clear water, clean air and as much as 2,600 hours of sunshine each year make this a perfect spot for a revitalising holiday. Villa Hortensia belongs to the owners of SLH sister property Boutique Hotel Alhambra.  more...

The island of Lošinj in the northern Adriatic is sometimes referred to as the Island of Vitality thanks to its beauty and calming nature. Lošinj is home to some 1500 plant species that have been identified so far and there are an abundance of wild, fragrant herbs growing on the island. Villa Hortensia is more of a case of working with nature to create a lovely tended landscaped garden with its own sunbathing area and outdoor massage zone, or you may prefer to relax by the heated seawater pool or laze on the private pier with deckchairs, parasols, shower and changing area.

Inside the villa, each of the ten bedrooms have walk in showers and eight also have hot tubs. On the ground floor, there is a dining room with terrace, living room with bar, Finnish sauna with relaxation area and a fitness area.

There are so many things to do on the island, but always popular are walks along the 260 kilometres of trails. Take the path of the dolphins, the path of the captains and climb Osorščica Hill with many beautiful landscapes, view spots and coves. Also visit the Blue World Institute of Marine Research and Conservation and the Lošinj dolphin reserve, home to some 120 bottlenose dolphins – you can even adopt one via Blue World and help support their important work.
